  • Topic 1 - This Week in Disney Parks history

    • 1955:

      • Ticket books (at a cost of $2.50 per adult, $2.00 per junior, & $1.50 per child) are available for the very first time at the new Disneyland theme park. "A Day at Disneyland" contains three A, two B, and three C tickets (D tickets won't be added until the following year and E tickets in 1959)

    • 1978:

      • It is announced that Mickey Mouse will be awarded a star on Hollywood Blvd's Walk of Fame next month in honor of his 50th birthday!

    • 1993:

      • The inaugural hockey game of the Disney-owned Mighty Ducks is held at the Anaheim Pond in California.

    • 2001:

      • Epcot's Journey into Your Imagination ride closes for renovations. The character Figment will be added and the attraction will reopen in June 2002 as Journey into Imagination with Figment.

    • 2003:

      • Mickey's PhilharMagic, a new computer-animated 3-D attraction, has its official grand opening in the PhilharMagic Concert Hall at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

      • At Disneyland, The Golden Horseshoe Variety Show performs it's final show at 5:30 PM after more than 4,000 performances.

    • 2006:

      • Disney Vacation Club announces that it is building a new timeshare resort on Walt Disney World property to meet ongoing demand for its unique vacation-ownership. Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas (part of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and the 5th timeshare at WDW) will feature intricate African-inspired details and home-like amenities. The first phase will open in summer 2007.

        • You’ll soon be able to have individualized time with some of your favorite characters, getting to visit with them in a themed location and snap a photo or two. Look for the Disney Princesses to return to Princess Fairytale Hall in Magic Kingdom Park. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you’ll soon find Minnie Mouse at Red Carpet Dreams and the stars of Disney Junior in Animation Courtyard. And when you stop in to see Mickey Mouse backstage at Town Square Theater on Main Street, U.S.A., he’ll be sporting his all-new EARidescent look designed just for the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary Celebration! Each of these locations is planned to start welcoming guests in November.

        • Next week at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, guests visiting Asia can once again enjoy the music of Chakranadi, and Kora Tinga Tinga returns to the streets of Harambe in Africa. And you can look for the Tam Tam Drummers to come back to Africa in early November. Performers will also soon be captivating guests strolling along the waterfront at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, and the inimitable Yeehaw Bob will have his audience in stitches of fun starting October 14 in the River Roost Lounge at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside.

        • Nov. 7 also marks the return of “Disney Movie Magic,” the cinematic nighttime experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios celebrating Disney’s live-action film legacy, and when this projection show resumes, it will feature a new sequence from Disney’s epic adventure, “Mulan.” And be sure to mark your calendars for Dec. 19, when the cast and crew of “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular” bring back all the comedy and thrills of that action-packed show.
